Maverick Upgrade?

I have a MacBook Pro with Maverick 10.9.5. Having issues opening new software without an upgrade. Is it possible to upgrade to a more current IOS? If so, is the cost prohibitive or is buying a new Mac less expensive?

Thanks,

Bill

Mac's don't run iOS, so no way to update to that.

You can update to a newer version of OSX / macOS for free.

Depending on the exact model of Mac you have will be what you can upgrade to.

If its 2012 or newer, you can upgrade to Mojave: How to upgrade to macOS Mojave - Apple Support

Otherwise, try High Sierra: Upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Official Apple Support

Or El Capitan as a last option: How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

Upgrading the OS doesn't cost anything. You may have to update some applications to work with the newer OS. As a minimum, you should be able to upgrade to El Capitan. You can try to download Sierra/High Sierra/Mojave. If you get a message that they are incompatible, then El Capitan is as high as you can upgrade.

How to get macOS High Sierra

Sierra download

You can try to download it at the link below. If it won't let you, then your only options are to upgrade to Sierra/High Sierra/Mojave or find an older computer where you can download it using your Apple ID.

El Capitan

Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.
