YOUTUBE videos restriction won't turn off

Videos within an email will not play. The YOUTUBE page comes up when I open the video and then goes completely gray. Message says: This video is restricted. Try signing in with your Google Apps account. This refers to a suite of business apps for $$$$. Also used by schools and large organizations. I am one person on a home iMac. I have been working with an Apple tech and we can't seem to find the way in and change the setting. I am the administrator of my own computer. That's all.

I'm not the first person. For the last 3 weeks this has been happening. I got it removed on the phone and pad but not the Mac.

The only thing I can think of is Safari may have saved the restriction in a cookie. Try opening Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data… Type "youtube" in the search field then select and delete any YouTube related files.

First thing one tries when something does not work in a browser: test with another.

It is not clear if this is a Youtube problem, or a Safari problem.

By testing with a different browser, and different videos in Youtube, you gather useful troubleshooting information.

I haven't seen this problem, and it also may help clarify things if you can post a screenshot of the error message you get.

Thanks, Keith. That doesn't work. I signed in to my Youtube account. Under my face I went to the bottom of the page and the last item is Restricted Mode Off> but it is not off. Turning the Restricted Mode On> blanks out the whole screen and when it comes back up the video shown is still "unavailable and restricted. Try signing in with a Google Apps account. The Google Apps is a real thing that is used by businesses and schools to control access to files. This isn't a Youtube invention.

There are videos on the page that Youtube has generated on a number of channels I subscribe to so I know that Youtube works on its own to generate videos.

This Video Restrictions is driving me nuts.

Thanks for helping me with this strange and sudden problem.

Thank you for trying to help me get the Restricted Mode off my Mac. I went back to the link which I have seen multiple times. It says that only the Administrator of the school or business or public computer can remove the restrictions. Since again I am not any of those, I am stumped.

I can't be the only person having this concern. What are other people sending in for support in this problem?

Hi - I don't know how to copy a link from the email and then open in Youtube. For example, my physical therapist has a video included in the email. This shows me the exercises I need for recovery. There is writing before and after the video. There is a circle with and forward pointing triangle. If I click on that I get the Big Restriction and everything is empty. So I cannot see the video or the exercises. She can send it over and over and I still get the Restriction.

The instructions on removing the Restriction end with me being told to contact my school, business, or large organization. I cannot access who or whatever this administrator is. It isn't me. I'm just the admin for my Mac/Apple. It's strange that I could remove the Restriction from my phone and tablet on IOS.

I am using Safari which has always been my Apple browser so that hasn't changed. Videos that are part of an email, such as watching a demonstration or a talk, are saying that the video is restricted and to sign in with a Google Apps account. I can open youtube directly and view that content without a problem. I am one person on the same computer and have no idea where this restriction is coming from - Google Apps appear to be associated with large organizations and educational institutions. They are also wanting me to buy a domain and charge $50. The strange part is that I was able to remove the restriction from my phone and pad as they are IOS and not OS. There seems to be a circular event....restriction, not being an Admin for Google Apps, hitting the wall. I am using High Sierra with the firewall on. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, Keith, for your help. I opened System Preferences and went to parental controls. As I remembered, there were no parental controls listed. Everything was empty so I am thinking of why I can see videos embedded in mail on my iPhone and iPad which are IOS systems? While the OS leaves me no way to get the videos in my mail.

Are there any other places I should look? Sending "help messages" to Google and Youtube are dead ends. They don't respond and don't even have a chat line. Of course, you know what's next. There are sites promising you access and solutions.....for a fee. And what do they know that anyone else couldn't find out? I've dealt with India customer service providers and ended up reporting them to the authorities for fraud.
