iMovie crashes whenever I try to export?

Whichever file I try to export, iMovie crashes/fails to successfully export the file. What can I do to fix this?

Try the following:

  1. Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. See if that solves it.
  2. Update to current iMovie 10.1.10 and Mojave operating system.
  3. Boot up in Safe Mode (see Help menu for instructions) and, after everything loads, immediately shut down and re-boot in normal mode.
  4. Try opening iMovie in a new user account, such as the Guest account on your Mac.
  5. Try exporting from a newly created project.
