Should I download MacKeeper software

I have always understood that Apple software does not need any anti-virus software, provided

one ensures software updates are installed when available.

I recently updated Adobe Flash Player to version 918.

Without prior notice, MacKeeper AV software started to download also.

This finished with a report stating that several software items required the attention of MacKeeper.

I was not happy to continue and eventually stopped the download.

Six MacKeeper packages are now in my downloads file.

I did not reach the payment page in the download sequence.

Do I need MacKeeper software?.

I am using a Mac Book Pro with OS 10.13.6. - High Sierra software.

NO! Run away! MacKeeper has been making a mess of Macs for years. If they can't sell it, they use false representation to sneak it on your computer.

Adobe doesn't bundle MacKeeper so I suspect you fell for one of the those false " You Flash needs updating" pop-ups:

Empty the MK files from your downloads folder and, as the fake Flash pop-up may be the source, use Malwarebytes to check for and remove any adware that sneaked in. It was written by a long-serving and trusted contributor to these forums and is the only preventative utility most of us old-timers recommend.

Get Malwarebytes only from the developers' website: https://www.malwarebytes.com
