Printer "paused"

On my iMac, my Dell E525w ethernet-connected printer has suddenly been stuck "paused". I tried unplugging it, restarting, deleting and reinstalling the printer and resetting the print systemm. All efforts failed. Here is the error log:

E [28/Dec/2018:14:23:13 -0800] Syntax error on line 24 of printers.conf.

E [30/Dec/2018:15:30:55 -0500] Syntax error on line 26 of printers.conf.

E [03/Jan/2019:19:15:56 -0500] Syntax error on line 26 of printers.conf.

E [04/Jan/2019:16:47:40 -0500] [Job 1] The printer is not responding.

Help! Thank you.

I tried everything above and nothing worked. Apparently it's something with the new OS (???). HERE IS WHAT WORKED: I deleted the printer ("Reset printer system")--then when I re-added the printer back, on the step where I add the printer, at the bottom there's a "Use: Secure AirPrint" option. I changed that selection to the printer name instead of AirPrint...THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM WHEN I ADDED IT BACK (ESPECIALLY FOR MY DELL E525W printer, I used v. 1.144).

Oddly, the Samsung M2070 printer I have, I left it on "Secure AirPrint" and it worked fine.

This has to be some sort of conflict with the Dell printers, I keep seeing pause error after error online for those.

Resume a paused printer: Your print queue can pause automatically if a print attempt fails, perhaps due to a paper jam. Or, you might hit the pause button yourself if you realize you’re printing the wrong document or you realize you’re going to run out of paper. It’s easy to leave a printer paused and forget about it until the next time you go to print. Clicking the Resume button in the Print Queue has the same effect as doing so from the Print dialog box.

Old jobs stuck in the queue can thwart your attempts to print. Delete one by clicking on the X at the end of the progress bar below its name. Click Resume to get the queue started again.

Get rid of old print jobs: If that doesn’t solve the problem, look for old print jobs stuck in the queue. If a job isn’t printable (perhaps the document no longer exists), you’ll need to delete it from the queue before you can print anything newer. To do this, click on the X next to the progress bar below the document’s name.
