Refurbished iPad mini

I just got a refurbished iPad mini from amazon and cannot setup. Can’t go beyond the screen that asks for the preferred language. Just keeps voicing out different languages when I touch the screen. Screen will NOT slide to set up. Is the device defective?

If that happened to me, I would triple-click the home button. It sounds like you have some Accessibility feature that is turned on and you need to get it turned off.

Once you solve the accessibility issue, force restart the iPad. Home the home and on/off buttons together for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

Further issues are likely, however, as the previous owner clearly did not do such a good job of thoroughly cleaning the iPad.

You may even find the iPad has an Activation Lock, which requires the previous owner to unlock, or the iPad remains useless to you.

If this was a refurbished device sold by Amazon itself (an Amazon "renewed" device), then Amazon warranties those for a minimum of 90 days and you can contact Amazon if you continue to experience issues. If it was an Amazon seller, they you may still have recourse through Amazon or that seller.

Note that refurbs anywhere other than the online Apple refurb store itself are not actually Apple OEM refurbished since Apple only sells those itself. Amazon refurbs are refurbished by whomever Amazon contracts that to themselves.
