What does Squeeze do?

I'm recording a narration vocal in Garageband 10.3.2.

I've defeated the presets in the Smart Controls, mostly because I don't think they make my voice sound any better. I'm using a Rode NT USB.

What does the Squeeze control do? I had assumed it was something to do with the compressor but it's still active when the compressor is turned off. It seems to boost the lower frequencies. I don't like it but I want to know what it is meant to do!

So what is it?

I know how to shift the sound to left and right and I tried quietening down the volume and it just doesnt have the same effect. is there a way I can do it whilst editing? cheers!

Volume automation on vocal audio track has no effect??? As you can see from this video, volume automation that I created for this vocal track brings the sound output down, but as the VU meter shows, the track is still clipping...
