iPad screen chipped from out of box
I bought the new iPad Pro 11 recently in nov 2018 . i was quite excited about it ,with no home button and all ,it seemed like a beauty . I was cleaning the screen with a micro fiber cloth to clear away all the smudges ,this was around early Dec 2018 , 15 days had already passed since I bought it .
that is when I noticed this small mark which refused to clear away with the cloth . On closer inspection I was appalled to notice that it was a very small chip on the screen. Photograph attached .
So I took it to nearby Apple store and the reps were quite understanding about it , but as 15 days had passed , I was advised to claim accidental damage if I wanted it replaced .
i am usually a very careful person , my last ipad looked brand new when I sold it , like it had never been used . So I did want to change it under apple care, but as I was going on holiday I postponed the change to January . Today finally the replacement came in so I went to the apple store today and the reps told me that the replacement was a brand new piece. I was happy that I was finally going to get a defect free piece. But having had the experience of finding this defect late I was keen to inspect the new ipad in the store . And was disappointed to find this brand new replacement piece also had the same defect on its screen , except in a different location on the screen . I asked if all piece were like that .. the rep could not guarantee that if I asked it to change again I would get a defect free piece. So I refused to claim my accidental damage as there was no point wasting my incident if I would end up with a defective piece again .
conclusion ....Apple is slipping on quality big time ,visible defects on ipad screens and no guarantee that new ones would be defect free that’s very very bad quality controls. The reps also mentioned that Apple had not yet acknowledged this issue .
lesson ... if you do not want to be stuck with a defective piece then examine your new ipad very very careful under different Angles to make sure your screen is good before u accept the piece . Maybe if everyone who gets a defective piece complains about it Apple might take it seriously.
PS.. while was waiting in line I overheard another lady who came in for the same reason on her ipad ,she said there was a white dot on screen , which sounded a lot like the issue I had .
