How do you prevent MacBook to eject external drives when on battery?

Hi all,

I was a happy user of an old macbook pro , decided to upgrade my hardware and now I'm totally confused and frustrated with USB-C ****.

My MacBook is connected to external drives via USB-C, the drives are plugged in a hub and self-powered. When the macbook is on the battery the drives are ejected when laptop goes to power saving mode.

I know about the "Put HDD to sleep when possible" option and it's currently ON and I want to keep it on for the laptop HDD but not for external HDD obviously.

Any clue how to fix this?

Using MacOS 10.13.6

MacBook Air (2018 or later)

Hello Frustration99,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you’re concerned about your external drives being being ejected when your Mac is in Standby Mode.

Here's a resource that can help explain more:

Use the Energy Saver settings on your Mac

Specifically, the section labeled "Standby Mode" explaines that the USB busses will be powered off while in standby. This is expected behavior, and will power off your external drives.

Best Regards.
