New Whatsapp Contacts not showing names, please help!

Hello,

Appreciate this may have been asked dozens of times but i am at my wits end and have searched for a resolution for hours with no resolution.

I have the same phone, nothing has changed but for the past 3 months new contacts in my iphone are not showing up in whatsapp, just shows the number when they contact me. I have made sure the contacts are synced, whatsapp has permission, all my contacts are shown and not hidden, have refreshed the contact options in the iphone settings, have completed re-installed whatsapp but nothing is working at all - contacted whatsapp they just reply with automated messages for the past 3 months, apple say they can't do anything as its a whatsapp issue... please please if anyone knows a resolution to this can you let me know???

Ok, Here's what I found on one of the thread:

Link to thread:

Contacted Whatsapp and this was their reply.

“You need to adjust settings on both WhatsApp and iPhone depending on what you'd like to be displayed in new message notifications.

To turn on previews that display both the contact name and message:

  1. Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Notifications > turn Show Preview on.
  2. Go to iPhone Settings > Notifications > WhatsApp > Show Previews > Always (Default)or When Unlocked.

To turn on previews that display the contact name but not message:

  1. Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Notifications > turn Show Preview on.
  2. Go to iPhone Settings > Notifications > WhatsApp > Show Previews > Never.

To turn off previews:

  1. Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Notifications > turn Show Preview off.
  2. Go to iPhone Settings > Notifications > WhatsApp.
  3. Turn off Show on Lock Screen, Show in Historyand Show as Banners.
  4. Tap Show Previews > Never.

Note: In iPhone Settings, Show Previews and the ability to see just the contact name in previews are only available on iOS 11+.”

Hope this helps. :)

Yet another solution, but really frustrating:

In whatsapp, tap the number of the contact on top of screen, then either create new contact or (if its already a contact) add to existing.

pull up (or create) contact name, then delete the phone number, copy and paste the mobile number into phone number.

making sure it is in the international format.

then the contact name appeared.

Okay, I am not sure if this is going to work on iOS, but I had similar issue on my Android. And this is what I did.

You need to basically remove all contacts from your iPhone (not from the backup). Then import all of them again.

On Android, I used Google account to sync my contacts, so basically I just had to remove my Google account from my phone, delete all contacts, add Google account again to get back all numbers. Checked WhatsApp and everything was perfectly fine.

Hope that helps.

Since WhatsApp belongs to Facebook it turned into real disaster.

I have the same issue on different iOS devices with different iOS versions, carriers and even contact lists. Nothing resolves an issue, and WhatsApp also ignores me with their automated messages.

Seems like we can't do anything about it but just stop using the app. That is exactly what I've done.
