Apple mail is a mess when using multiple accounts

Nothing seems to work properly with multiple mail accounts:

  • The default mail address in my settings is constantly being ignored.
  • After manually setting the sender mail address in a new email, Apple mail does not use this designated address but randomly! uses one of my other accounts. Not only is this quite embarrassing with business related correspondence, my emails end up being stored in a wrong account.
  • What's even more puzzling, when I check the sent mails, the sender account sometimes does not match with account the email has been actually been sent from.

What's worse, I already had similar issues with the previous MacOs. It seems that Apple is ending up like Microsoft: modifications are merely cosmetically and bugs keep being copy/pasted from one OS update to the next.

Lets check your settings in mail preferences.

Go to Composing and unselected the

And choose the account from drop down list instead.

Once you have selected the default account to send from

1-all NEW emails will be sent from that account regardless in which email you are in.

2- however if you are using Reply it will use the account you are in.

You always have the choice to change from which account is been sent just by clicking small arrow next to it

Thx for the reply. But that doesn't help, since I already had selected my standard account in the "Send new..." dropdown menu. As you suggested, I unchecked "When sending..". However, this does not make any difference. The new email always uses the current account I'm working in. Even after I manually select a different account in the email window, Apple mail ignores my selection and sends the email from the current account.
