Cellular update failed.

My iPhone says that the cellular update failed. My carrier is Verizon and I have an iPhone 7. I have restarted and factory reset my iPhone and have removed and reinserted the SIM several times. Some of these allow me to reconnect my phone to Verizon for a few hours at a time, but eventually my phone says it is searching for a network, and then either says no service or says cellular update failed. When I go to the about menu in settings, there is no carrier update notification, and I cannot update cellular settings through iTunes. The support forum says that this may be an issue with the cellular modem. Please advise.

If it was an issue with the cellular modem it would never work. The fact that it works sometimes means that there's probably a different issue. Go to Settings/General/About and look at the modem firmware version. If it is not blank this is not your issue.

Have you checked to see if this applies to you? -->iPhone 7 Repair Program for "No Service" Issues - Apple Support. I suspect it doesn't either, as this problem isn't intermittent - it just stops working altogether.

What is a possibility is a local Verizon network outage; that would explain the intermittency.

It's also possible that it's a loose, but not broken antenna connection in the phone.
