Zoom (System Preference) Keeps Turning On

Under the Accessibility System Preference, the Zoom function can be turned on and off by toggling the Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom.

So I have it turned off.

When I hold the control key and scroll the mouse wheel, suddenly this option is re-enabled and the screen zooms in. I then have to go into the System Preferences again to turn it off.

But it keeps happening.

Its unfortunate that this shortcut (control + mousewheel) is also used by MS Powerpoint to zoom into a page. But instead of zooming the PPT page, it enables the system Zoom again.

Is there any workaround for this?

Aha! Your comments on my mouse made me check my SteerMouse settings...

Turns out there was a modifier option on my scroll wheel set to the Zoom preference toggle. Dont know why that was set that way - perhaps it was a default setting.

Anyway, I wouldnt have thought to look without your hints.

What mouse are you using? Obviously not an Apple mouse since they have no scroll wheel.

Test while logged into a different user account.

Did you try switching the modifier key to something other than control? Mine is set to the command key.

Good suggestion, but I already tried to switch it to Option and Command but control + mousewheel switches it back on and zooms the screen again. Not straight away, but on the third scroll or so.
