Mac Mini Ethernet

My late 2014 Mac Mini does not allow me to connect to the internet via its ethernet port, just wi-fi. Can anyone please advise as to how I can connect using ethernet? Thanks

What does the network tab in settings window look like? Does the ethernet port show up? If not, you need to add a new configuration by using the + sign and then select "ethernet".
