Make my mac detect an aux as a mic instead of a headphone

I got an 11-inch MacBook Air Early 2015 with only one Aux port, i want to connect my electric drum-kit so that I can record what I am playing, the problem is that when I connect the aux cable to the port, the computer recognizes the aux cable as a headphone and not a microphone, therefore garageband does not receive any sound coming from my drumset. I connected the two mono cables to the drum-kit's output label.

Hoping to hear an answer.

internal mike for garage band on new macbook air I just purchased a new macbook air and attempted to use garage band to make a single track recording and was unable to have GB recognize the internal mike as an input. I went on system preferences and did the usual steps and was unable to get GB to use the internal mike. Connected external microphone isn't showing listed on sound Input on MacBook Air I have an MacBook Air and I'm using GarageBand. So I need to record some voice with my external microphone. I connected it using 3.5 mm aux audio cable. When I go into system preferences - Input - the device isn't listed in Input, but in Output it listed. Any ideas? If it make sense my external microphone is Shure 8700.
