Home App and Homekit Controller

I am a newbie to the Home App. I have one started basic with Home Pod and Apple TV.

What is the relationship with the Home App and the Controller App. Thought you just added devices to the Home App????????? There should be a class for this, haven't found one.

I don't know of a Homekit Controller app. Everything that I do is managed through the Home app (iOS or macOS) - adding new devices, creating scenes and automations and controlling individual devices. However somewhere in your home network (cloud?) there is a function that does all the communicating and control in a way that allows iOS devices, Macs and Homepods to be used control Homekit devices. The function seems to run on an Apple TV, Homepod or permanently connected iPad but we mortals don't have access to this function, except via the Home app or Siri.

I find the Apple self-serve support for Home.app and Homekit woeful. I have asked them to create a Homekit community so we can solve our own problems because currently Homekit discussions are spread amongst several communities.

i am not sure what you mean by controller.app. Do you mean the iOS app that supports your devices (like the WeMo app for iOS)? These should should allow you to set up a devices then hand control over to the Home app. I have a mixture of Homekit devices and the method of hand-over has been different for every one.

i did have a problem with LIFX lights until I found a user tip to change the default device name when first connecting it to wifi.

Thanks for your response. Makes me feel better. If I just add my devices to the Home App I guess I do not have to worry about the Homekit App. ( HomeKit: The ultimate guide to Apple home automation | iMore

HomeKit is a framework that connects your home automation products and lets you control them with your voice, via Siri, and your taps, via the Home app for iOS. Here's an example: Say you buy Elgato's Eve Room, a HomeKit-enabled product that monitors a room's air quality, temperature, and humidity.

Hope fully it is as you said and we mortals do not have to worry about it.
