iTunes version for MacOs 10.13.6 won't update from 12.7.4

I am trying to migrate my user to another computer. I have reformatted the receiving computer 13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2014) doing a clean install of High Sierra to match my current computer Mac Mini (2018). Therefore, both computers have 10.13.6 but the MBP only has iTunes 12.7.4 while the Mac Mini has iTunes 12.8.

Migration from the Mac Mini to the MBP was unsuccessful, and the resolution proposed is to update the iTunes app.

The app will not update when Software update is run.

Is there a reason iTunes won't update, or a way to force the update?

See iTunes for Mac installers - Apple Community and install iTunes 12.8.0.150 manually.

Annoyingly I didn't capture a link to 12.8.1 when it was available. You could check your browser history if you downloaded it directly to see if you still have it.

Or you could try copying the iTunes app from the old machine to the new one.

Or you could revert to a pre-12.8.1 version of your library. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community.

Hi turnungtest2,

Thank you for your assistance. I was able to upgrade manually to the most recent iTunes currently available (12.8).

Unfortunately, Apple had issued 12.8.1 but has since removed it from the site due to problems it caused in some versions of OS and/or IOS.

In my particular circumstance, I am trying to migrate from an Mac Mini that has High Sierra and has been updated to iTunes 12.8.1 in the time when 12.8.1 was available to a computer to which has High Sierra with 12.8 and cannot be upgraded further to match the Mac Mini until Apple fixes 12.8.1.

The result is I have to leave the files on my Mac Mini, or transfer them and have no access to iTunes .... unless I can downgrade my iTunes data .....

I am responding so others in the community, who may find this discussion, are made aware of the 12.8.1 issue.

At least it is Friday ..
