iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) Upgrade to El Capitan

According to the hardware specs, my iMac 12,1 is compatible with El Capitan, but when I try to download it from the app store, it says "This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer." The version I'm trying to download is 10.11.6. Can I get an earlier version of El Capitan for my iMac?

Your computer's capable of running High Sierra, so you'll only be able to get El Capitan if it's currently on 10.7.5 or earlier, or you have access to an Apple ID previously used to download it.
