Apple CarPlay problem with 2019 Acura RDX and iPhone X

After connecting, successfully, my iPhone X to the RDX's infotainment unit, the connection repeatedly cuts off, only to re-connect some time later. I have changed cords, and the software on both the phone and the infotainment system are up to date.

I fiinally fixed the Apple CarPlay issues my wife was having with her 2019 Acura RDX and her iPhone 8. After following all the ideas on this page, my nearly identical phone worked, and hers did not.

I went into the phone profiles in the car’s CarPlay settings, and there were two profiles for her phone. I deleted them (along with all unneeded profiles created by the dealer test drives, etc.) and her phone works flawlessly.

I also recommend naming your phone something other than the default “iPhone” in the general settings.

Acura told me, they've never heard of a such a problem.

"Because I wasted time and took my car to dealer - they called Acura and were told this - and dealer said I wasn’t the first person with this issue. I called Acura customer relations myself and they said they are aware. Read Twitter - bulletins etc - this is major issue and wish I read this before I bought the car - should have bought the Lexus NX"

Thanks for the Information BrianL999.

I agree that Acura owes us all compensation for all this aggravation with CarPlay. When I talked to them last week seems like they had not even issues a service bulletin to the Acura dealers about the issues.

If Acura was proactive they would send out an email to all RDX owners clearly explaining the issues and what they plan to do about it instead of forcing all of us to dig though these online forums to figure out the problem.

I plan on calling them up tomorrow and pointing that out to them.

By the way there is lots of changes coming with CarPlay in iOS 13 coming out in September. Let’s hope they are testing that too.

It is pretty clear Acura needs to work a lot closer with Apple to keep on top of this.

BrianL9999, thanks for the information. Hopefully iOS 13 can fix this problem. Keep us informed on if it continues to work for you. This problem of CarPlay disconnects is unpredictable, sometimes it will work OK several days in a row. Other times it will disconnect a number of times in a row.

I called Acura again today, and told them they really need to email everyone to let us know the status of resolving this issue. They said that was a good idea, but I wonder if they will actually follow through.

The person I talked to said they were embarrassed about the issue. Well we will see if any of that actually translates into action.

My car has been sitting at Acura for 3 days now. I was told they were going to "release" my car to me as Acura was awaiting on an update to come out and once it did I would have to come back in. This morning they called and stated low and behold the update was issued by Acura. My car has been there all day and I have yet to hear anything back. Hoping this works or I will be following up with Florida's Lemon Law.
