iTunes keeps resetting my iPhone auto backup setting from This Computer to iCloud

hi everyone. i just got a new iPhone and am getting it set up to sync with iTunes. i prefer backing up to my Mac instead of iCloud. i am having an issue with iTunes where it keeps resetting the "Automatically Back Up" setting to "iCloud" instead of "This computer". every time i change the setting to "This computer", and then hit "Apply", iTunes sets it back to "iCloud". i have the iCloud backup setting on my iPhone turned off.

My Old mac was set to automatically back up to "This computer" and iTunes remembered it just fine. i'm not sure why it keeps resetting to iCloud for my new phone. iTunes lets me back up manually with no issues, by clicking the "Back Up Now" button. it just won't save the automatic back up setting for some reason.

Hey kartik_1,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. I can see that you're having issues with the settings you have for backing up your iPhone with iTunes. I'd like to see how I can help. What steps have you tried to get this working normally? For example, closing out of iTunes and re-opening? Which macOS software are you using?

I recommend disabling iCloud backup in your iPhone settings first. This article shows how:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you still have issues, test this out in safe mode. Check out the following link to learn how and let us know what happens.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Take care.
