Unable to add or change tags in Finder

Finder gives me Unexpected Error Code -36 when I try to change or remove tags on the files that are tagged "Home"

Also if I add a tag to a file it doesn't get added to the list in finder.

What can I do to fix this issue? I really like to use the tags...

Thanks for taking the time to answer Viking OSX.

I finally solved my problem by using the fix for error code -36

https://macmetric.com/fix-error-code-36-mac/

the dot_clean command in terminal got rid of the files that were causing the problem.

I was initially unable to do that command in terminal because my files are stored in a separate partition and I was unable to access them, but after reading up a bit about terminal and how to navigate the file system it was easy to fix the issue.

So, these tagged files are on your boot drive correct? You right-click on the tagged file, and select Tags…, and then backspace set tags until that space is blank, and then do a return, which actually does the removal. Right?

That -36 error is likely an I/O error, which may mean something else is going on with your drive. Have you run Disk Utility First Aid on it lately?
