ipad mirroring with pointer

I am trying to teach an iPad course to some people and am using the mirroring feature to project my iPad on a large LCD TV screen. This works fine, however I need some way of showing the audience what I am pointing to. So when I tap on my iPad, they see what I am referring to on the TV screen. How can I do this?

You can use the zoom controller as a crude pointer. Navigate to Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom and slide the toggle switch to on. Turn on Show Controller. Set Zoom Region to Full Screen Zoom. Leave Follow Focus off and Zoom Filter at None. You can play around with Idle Visibility and the maximum zoom level.

Touch the zoom controller and drag it around to use as a pointer. When not touching the zoom controller everything functions as usual. If you wish to use the zoom feature double-tap the zoom controller for both in and out. You can also double-tap with three fingers anywhere on the screen to zoom in and out. While zoomed in touch the zoom controller to pan the screen around with the joystick. You can also pan the screen around with three fingers. You won't be able to move the zoom controller while zoomed in. You can continue to scroll with one or two fingers. Tap the zoom controller once to bring up the popup menu where you can adjust the zoom level with a slider up to the maximum you set earlier as well as make other selections.
