Can’t turn on Live Listen

Cannot turn on Live Listen. Airpods charged, connected via Bluetooth, Hearing enabled in Control Center. Have re-booted, re-started, turned Bluetooth on and off, re connected, but Live Listen never turns on when tapped in Control Center. Found no help online. IPHONE XS Max.

Live listen with AirPods gets choppy after background sounds used then disabled been trying to fix live listen so I can use it with my AirPods 2, but after the re-pairing tip, set the background sound on, then switched back to live listen, and problem returned. It was fine right after pairing, but putting into background sound and back to live listen resulted in it sputtering the audio again. I have the latest and greatest iOS on an iPhone 11… any idea what is causing this? ( hoping I made described it enough to make sense. )

Live Listen connect a compatible audio device when I press hearing option, after I connect my airpods 2 wireless charging, its asks to connect compatible device. it's basically new, just got 'em. so what can I do in this case? I tried all the options such as restarting phone, changing hearing options, etc. can anyone tell me what to do?
