Very upset w/iPad Pro and Apple Pencil purchase. Help please.

I bought the Apple Pencil four months ago (September 2018). Then after saving up the money, I bought a iPad Pro a month later. So I could draw, sketch, paint, etc using Procreate. It helps me relax.

A thousand dollars later I find myself disappointed.

Apparently the iPad Pro I purchased wasn’t the newest model. Even though it’s the 6th generation, apparently the iPad Pro 3rd generation is the newest model. So my 6th gen, while I can use the pencil with it, doesn’t support pairing via side magnets. Nor does the pencils’ settings show up in the 6th gens settings.

Settings I can use to set up gestures to use with the pencil that would save me a tremendous amount of time every time I use it.

Is it just me, or, does anyone else see a problem here?

Also, after buying the 6th gen, I find out it’s lacking in functions and capabilities when compared to the old iPhone 8 Plus.

Raise to wake on iPad Pro 6th gen? No.

Wireless charging on iPad Pro 6th gen? No.

Fast charging on iPad Pro 6th gen? No.

Facial recognition? No.

Flashlight? No.

Water and dust resistant? No.

I’ve spent close to two hours on the phone with apple support. In part due to the battery not lasting long (two and a half to three hours to go from a full charge to 10%) and taking 10-12 hours to charge back to full. It started doing this after 2 months. I guess I will have to leave it plugged in to the charger. So much for portability :(

Anyway, support told me I would have to “Upgrade to the newest model of iPad Pro to be able to have the pencil settings show up.”

I work 40+ hours/week. So anything I can do to save me time on my weekends and off time, I’m willing to pay for.

The problem is I’ve already spent close to a thousand dollars, and still don’t have what I need.

Someone please help me resolve this.

Thank you for your time.

There has never been a 6th generation iPad Pro.

I think you got confused as to what you purchased.

I think you purchased the 2018, 6th gen, 9.7 inch regular, standard iPad that now has support for the older, original Apple Pencil.

The 6th gen iPad is NOT an iPad Pro.

OR, you purchased the older 10.5 or 12.9 inch screen iPad Pros.

You would need to post your iPad’s model ID number from the Settings App, General, About for us to make a determination

as to what iPad model you actually purchased.

How is it Apple’s fault, exactly, that you purchased the wrong iPad model?

You could have purchased your iPad/iPad Pro before the brand new models were introduced/released sometime later in October 2018.

Maybe the 3rd gen models were not introduced yet when you made your iPad/iPad Pro purchase.

Apple still makes and sells the older 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro as its introductory iPad Pro model.

IF you actually have the last iPad Pro generation, these are no slouch in performance department, either!

If you are not happy with your iPad/iPad Pro purchase, you can always sell it and use the monetary proceeds toward the purchase of an all new 3rd gen iPad Pro and 2nd gen Apple Pencil.

FYI,

These new, 3rd gen iPad Pro models are, currently, experiencing issues of their own.

So, the grass isn’t always greener with a brand new, newly redesigned from the ground up iPad model.

The iPad Pencil Settings in Settings only apply to the Second Gen Apple Pencil and the 3rd gen iPad Pros.

For a first generation Apple Pencil paired with a 9.7" 6th gen iPad, 9.7" iPad Pro, 10,5" iPad Pro, or a First or Second Generation 12.9" iPad Pro, there are no Pencil Settings.

The Latest Apple Pencil, with the flat side and no silver ring at the top of it, cannot be used with a 6th Gen 9.7" iPad.

After doing some research on iPP generations, I found out the salesperson told me the iPP was a 6th gen. When in reality it’s a 2nd gen. Which was the latest model at the time.

Also, the pencil is the latest model.

My frustration stemmed from being misinformed by the salesperson. And I want to apologize for my original post.

My question now is, why would apple release a pencil that it’s settings don’t show in the then latest model of iPP? But do show in the next, later released, generation iPP?

Hopefully, the pencil settings showing in settings on my 2nd gen iPP will be addressed and fixed with a iOS update. Fingers crossed!

FYI,

You cannot use the newest Apple Pencil 2 model with the older 1st and 2nd gen iPad Pro models.

The new Apple Pencil 2 is incompatible with the older iPad Pro models.

You need to be using the original 1st gen Apple Pencil ( the one with the silver, metal, magnetic ring ) with the 2nd gen iPad Pros.

I believe, you purchased the wrong version Apple Pencil.
