Occasionally on the color watch face the left part of the display has a bunch of pixels flashing on and off. I took a video but it wont let me upload so here are photos showing how it looks. I just purchased the watch yesterday, series 4 40mm stainless steel. Is this a hardware issue? So unacceptable for the cost of this. Is this a software or hardware issue? I restarted device and seem to only get the flickering on the color watch face

Dodgy pixels are almost always a hardware issue. Contact Apple Support and arrange a swap out. If you are within the first 14 days you should get a brand new replacement rather than a service replacement, so if you go the Apple Store route take your box and all accessories. If the store is not convenient and a replacement is shipped to you just return accessories etc as instructed.
i can easily reproduce the issue on the color watch face but havent been able to see the flickering on any of the other faces so far so i thought it could be software. Will exchange it at apple
