Q: VERIFICATION REQUIRED

I've had my apple tv for a few years. I just started getting this message...

"VERIFICATION REQUIRED. Before you can make purchases, you must go to the iTunes store on your computer and verify your payment information."

I've updated my payment info in iTunes on my laptop, as well as signed out and back into the apple tv.
Nothing works.

Any ideas????

I have the same problem and it happened last night.
Repeated pop-ups to get "verification required" on my itunes account.
I went through numerous times without success.

Can't get anyone from Apple to help and I conveniently exceeded my product support period.
Not very impressed at the moment.

    Ideas welcome.

You should send a message to iTunes store support and ask them to look into the problem. There was a security breach in the iTunes store recently that affected some member accounts.

as previously stated, it isn't an appletv issue, it's an itunes store account issue.
check your account on a pc/laptop and ensure that it is not locked ore requiring re-verifying.
once that is done, appletv should be able to access it.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.

There may be a communication issue between the tv and the host computer, try restarting the tv, the router and the computer.

Check that the account you are using on the tv is the same account you use on your computer.

Before any widespread panic sets in, any security breach which has been raised here, is the result of individual accounts being compromised likely through phishing or compromised computers, it isn't because of anything that happened at the itunes store. The only way your account might become compromised is if you let it.

    Hi Winston,
The first thing I did was restart the computer and the Apple TV. Per your suggestion I restarted, the computer, router and apple tv, and still no luck. I sent an email to iTunes support, and will wait a few days for a reply.
    Any other suggestions?
    Best,

so what happens when you access your itunes store account in itunes on your computer? does that also advise you that verification is required?

I'm having the same problem. No verification required pop-up when I access my account via my computer. It shows all my current information, including the correct address, cc, and phone numbers...

    No.
    Everything is fine.
I even tried changing the CC information and updating it to see if that would help.
Then I restarted everything...and still get the VERIFICATION REQUIRED message.
I just bought two songs for a $1.29 to see if I would get the message on my computer. Works fine on two other computers.
Still waiting on reply from iTunes support.

My apple tv is out of warranty...so I have to pay $49 for a one time diagnosis.
Seems a bit steep to me.

Tried the suggestions here with no avail.
    I am not going to pay a one-time $49 fee for a $200 product.
Apple should stand behind their products AND services especially when they bundle them and make them dedicated to each other.
I don't have any choice but to use iTunes with AppleTV.
At this point I have a very large paperweight.

Does anyone from Apple read these forums?

This is very frustrating as there's a glitch somewhere in the Apple ether.

SOMEONE FROM APPLE ANSWER THE SUPPORT LINE OR GET A TECH THAT HAS AN ANSWER TO HELP US PLEASE!!

I had this same problem. Here's how I fixed it:

    1) Go to iTunes
    2) Go to your account settings (on my version of iTunes, I click my email address in the upper-right)
    3) Click the "Edit Payment Information" button
    4) Make sure everything is filled out correctly and click "Done"

Now everything should work correctly. Hope that helps!

Have you by any chance modified or removed your users shared folder.
