iPhone 4 being shipped from China??

I ordered my iPhone online a few weeks ago, with a delivery date of July 15th. It has now shipped. When I checked tracking information i was happy to see it was coming via FedEx. That means fast, right? No. Apparently its being shipped from China??? So its still giong to take 7-8 business days to get here. That is crazy. Why are they shipping iPhones from China?

More likely Elk Grove, CA (just south of Sacramento). Apple ships a lot of stuff from there. I would guess that when things aren't selling like hotcakes, they have some iPhones warehoused there. Then again, maybe they did come from China and you just didn't notice. Apple does make a big effort to minimize inventory.

I believe early orders have come from China in the past -- direct from the factory to you. Also custom MacBooks and the like. And re the iPh4, we are still in the "early order" rush.

Currently iPhone 4's are coming straight from China because they are 'hot off the press' so to speak.

In the future, iPhone 4's will come from local/domestic sources as stock accumulates. This is the same with almost all products now days, unfortunately. Cheap labor in China and abroad means that is where they are assembled. So if something is out of stock, relatively new, etc. it will be coming 'hot off the press' from the direct manufacturing source. In this case with Apple, from China.
