Access Gmail on Mac w/High Sierra

Yesterday my MacPro operating with HighSierra 10.13.6 was not recognizing my google password and could not effectively login into my gmail. I deleted the account and now I cannot add it. Nothing happens once I try to add the google account and select the apps that I want to use with the account: Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Notes. The screen does not move and my only available button is cancel. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a remedy for it?

Thank you for your suggestion. The google mail worked fine on my Mac laptop mail until yesterday morning. It is not a new device so the authentication step isn't needed. I can get mail on my iPod without a problem, and my husband can get it through his Mac desktop as well. I just can't get it to work on my MacBook Pro.

I went to my Apple store yesterday and they could not get it to work either. They deleted the account and tried to re-install it. They thought it was a problem with one of the Google platforms and it would correct itself. So far it has still not allowed me to re-establish the google mail account on my Mac laptop.
