Garage band 10.3.3 for ipad

I have a Macbook pro, but I don't use an i-pad. I am planning a long trip and want to be able to use the latest Garageband app 10.3.2 with an i-pad. I'm looking to buy one secondhand for this journey. What i-pads would be compatible and let me be able to update? I've been looking at the i-pad Pro's is that the best option, would a first generation be ok?

I don't want to go new at this point, partly because it may get some rough and ready on the treatment, plus I don't really know if I want to stay using ipad full time.

Be very grateful for any advice

For what it's worth my iPad Air 2 works quite well with the latest Garageband 2.3.7 on the latest iOS 12.1.3. There are loads on eBay for $250 ish for 64Gb.

On an iPad you need an iPad version of GarageBand iOS. It is not possible to run a Mac version of GarageBand on an iPad.

The most recent iPad version is GarageBand 2.3.7, see: ‎GarageBand on the App Store

Thank you TaserVictim, really appreciate your helpful reply. I can surf ebay with more confidence now. I have Garageband on my Macbook Pro but it might be a little hefty to lug on my planned trip, so thank you again.
