How to get iTunes to charge my gift card balance instead of my credit card

I am really frustrated because I have a significant iTunes credit that shows on my account. However, when I make iTunes purchases, Apple is continuing to charge my credit card instead of deducting the amount from my iTunes balance. I have researched it and read all the FAQs, etc., and cannot figure out how to get Apple to use my iTunes balance instead of charging my credit card. I'm at a loss on this. Apple sells gift cards and tells you how to enter the cards into your iTunes account.... but then they don't actually apply the balances to purchases. This is not ok. Please tell me how to fix it.

How items are billed is automatic, it should be using your account's balance. If it's not doing that contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com or http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww
