Can I convert an old iMac to freeBSD only?

I have a 2013 iMac that stewed in my house for 9 days after the house was flooded by hurricane Harvey; water level was about an inch below my desktop that it sat on. I bought a new iMac and am using it.

The older iMac does come on and appear to work (but it may die sometime), but I like to convert it to a command line machine only, just to keep my old mind busy.

Is this possible, or am I gonna have to keep some form of Mac OS X on it and go through a disk partition kind of process.

I triple booted my iMac g3 600: macOS X, macOS Classic and Ubuntu Linux. I run linux in a the Parallels virtual machine.
