imovie crop

Hi gang -- I need to crop a movie so that there is white space on either side, as in the image below. Is this difficult to do in iMovie?

Thanks,

Will

Hi, Will,

Overlay the video as a cutaway over a white background.

First you need to crop the sides of the video so that the white background will be displayed. To do that, go to the My Media view and select your Library in the sidebar. Then to a File/New Event. A new event will be created and displayed in the sidebar. Drag your video clip into the new event. Open the Event. In the browser display screen, select the clip that you dragged into it. Then click on the Crop tool (the one that looks like intersecting angles) in the tool bar at the top right hand side of your screen.

You will see something like this:

Click on the Crop tab to reveal the crop adjustment bars:

Adjust the sides of the adjustment rectangle to crop the video. Then click on the blue reset button in the upper right of your screen to apply the crop. Drag the cropped video into your project and overlay it as a Cutaway onto a white background as illustrated in the first two screen shots above.

I hope that the above is clear.
