I spent over an hour with Aftershokz customer support -- an online chat. The rep was fantastic. She had me do a reset of the headphones, and after that, they paired with my MacBook Air. We also got the AirFly to pair with the headphones once -- I plugged them into the MBA headphone jack, and they worked. But I then tried the headphones multipoint pairing (2 devices) -- phone and AirFly, and although the phone (Android Moto G5+) would pair, the AirFly would not. Having problems with AirFly; it seems to be quite finicky, and right now, it apparently only can pair with "one" rather than allowing the headphones to use the multipoint pairing function. But that's a topic for AirFly, not Apple. Just wanted to post that I got the headphones to work with the Bluetooth on my MBA.

Greetings Soccer_12,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! I understand you're unable to pair your Bluetooth headset with your MacBook Air as expected, as you mentioned your Mac is unable to find the headset when searching for Bluetooth connections.

If you've ensured your Bluetooth headset is in pairing mode when this behavior occurs, I suggest to restart your Mac and check for Bluetooth interference, as described in the following support articles: How to turn your Mac on or off & Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

If additional assistance is needed, it would be helpful to know if you're able to pair other Bluetooth accessories with your Mac, and if you can pair your Bluetooth headset with a different audio source.

Cheers.

I have a 2011 MacBook Air, MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6. I recently purchased Aftershokz Trekz Air wireless bluetooth headphones. The specs are as follows:

  • at least Bluetooth v4.0
  • compatible with one of these profiles: A2DP, AVRCP, HSP, HFP
  • compatible with the SBC codec

My MAC will NOT pair with these headphones.

I also just purchased an AirFly bluetooth transmitter. It supports A2DB and the SBC codec. I tried pairing with the AirFly in the headphone jack transmitter, but that didn't work either. I had Bluetooth on in both cases.

Is this working as designed, i.e., it's not supposed to work with my particular MacBook Air?

Thanks. Lynne
