P2418D external monitor black screen

Hello! I recently purchased Dell P2418D and I can't run it at full resolution (2560×1440) on my Macbook Pro 13" early 2015. Screen is just black. But it does work if I scale it down to 2048x1080. Is my Macbook too old to run 2K resolution? I have it connected through built-in HDMI port.

Hi okcif_naj,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I see you have a question about using an external display on your Mac.

Your resolution will vary based on a few factors, including the specific monitor capabilities and the refresh rate. The information below is from the MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) - Technical Specifications:

HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz

Since you're finding that it works when set to 2048x1080 resolution, it does sound like the Mac is working as expected with the display, but doesn't support the higher resolution at this frame rate.

I hope I've answered your question.

Take care!
