My iPhone XR does not auto-lock. In settings the Auto-Lock is set for 1 minute. The low power mode is off. I have turned it on and off twice and need to use passcode after it has been turned off. Face ID works for other things like passwords. Any advice?

Face ID is very sensitive and fast to unlock when it sees you, so it could be unlocking before you notice it was locked. You can check this easily, leave the phone so it should lock, then have someone else pick it up and check for the lock, OR if you have no assistant available, make sure Face ID can’t see you by covering the top of the screen to block the camera.

Yes. I called Apple support and we ended up resetting the phone and now it is working
You’re right, the Face ID is fast and I had my husband pick up the phone and it was unlocked. Fixed now with the help of Apple support and resetting the phone.
So when you put the phone down it doesn’t lock at all? So after a a few minutes you pick it up and it is still on? Ta
