2 LG 5K external displays crashes the MacBook Pro 15" 2017

When using these displays (https://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-27MD5KA-B) I frequently find, especially after returning the device when it went to standby, that my MacBook has crashed and requires a hard reboot with the power button.

This issue affects at least 3 of my colleagues who have the same configuration on their own MacBooks and displays.

After booting back up, I am not prompted to report the crash to Apple but I am asked if I want to reopen my applications.

Are there any steps I can take to troubleshoot this issue further?
