I have an old iphone 6. Which wont restore and continually presents me with 'connect to iTunes black screen. How can I update and make it functional? It wont update via my Mac iTunes. Thanks in advance!

Did you try to put your device in DFU mode and try to restore it that way?

What happens when you attempt to to restore it using iTunes from your computer?
If you get an error message, what does it say? Exactly?
ITts my very old phone (current one dropped and needs repaired so using it until its fixed) the software needed updating as it had been a couple of years since I last used the phone. When i tried to update by connecting to itunes its given me the death screen!
Was that the original phone you brought? Or did you get it secondhand? Ta
Apologies I'm not great with this. Had to google DFU. Have put it into DFU mode and now trying to update.....will let you know outcome. :)
Cant remember exactly...now trying to restore in DFU mode but something along the lines of
iPhone cannot update (error message 4005??)

The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (4005).
That fine as you will still be able to use your Apple ID with it. Ta
