Forgot Password iPod Touch (4th Gen)

Hi I recently dug out my iPod Touch from an old pile of memories but I forgot the password to it. It has been years since I've seen or used my iPod so I don't have any backups of it. Is there any way of recovering my iPod Touch without erasing all data inside it? I wish to see all memories that have been stored away in this device. Thanks!!
