iMessage jumps to bottom of conversation every 5 to 10 seconds

I have an iPhone XS that I purchased on launch day and have not had any issues with till recently. For the past few weeks I have found that iMessage jumps to the very bottom (most recent message) of a conversation every 10 seconds or so. This is problematic when reading a message consisting of several paragraphs that is long enough to require scrolling. It gives you about 10 seconds to read before it jumps right back to the bottom. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? I never experienced this with other iPhone models. Also, the issue has remained even after updating to 12.1.3. Thanks for the help.

I see that when you're reading a long text message you've received, the message is jumped back down to the bottom. I'd find this a problem myself, and I'm happy to help.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Restart your iPhone. Once it's returned to the Home screen, see how Messages behaves.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- If restarting your iPhone didn't resolve the issue, please be sure to have a fresh backup to keep your personal information safe. In order to back up your Health data, the backup needs to be encrypted. iCloud does this automatically, but iTunes doesn't. If you'd like to use iTunes to back up your iPhone, refer to this article: About encrypted backups in iTunes

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Even though the title of the article isn't specific to your issue, the section titled "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" will walk you through all the steps to reinstall the iOS software on your device. Test the issue once again.
