Pay for iCloud with credit card

I have an iTunes gift card but my purchases won’t use the total amount. I’d like to save this for a future purchase. When I’ve done this in the past my iCloud subscription would use up the remaining amount. Is there a way to pay for iCloud with my credit card first instead of with iTunes credit first.

It seems like Apple should let people choose primary and secondary payment options.
