Cable to transfer photos from Canon Camera to Lightning to 2018 iPad 9.7

I am really confused and hope someone can help. I am looking for a cable to do the above. I need a cable that will adapt from a USB from my camera to my iPad. The assistant at John Lewis said this can't be done. I contacted Apple and they told me there were various cable adapters and sent me a link, however upon googling this I came across a you tube video which said you could only do this on a iPad Pro. I am going on holiday and got the iPad to save me taking my MacBook Pro which I usually transfer my photos to. Can anyone help me on this please?

@BORg529, sorry I have only just seen your reply. In the end I looked on Amazon and found something that did the job admirably. It was an adapter that converted both my lead from my camera and the lead from my Apple iPhone and what's more it only cost £12.99 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07JZBJMX7?ref_=pe_3187911_264767211_E_301_dt_1 Job done!!

@BORg529 Thanks for that but I've read conflicting reports on this, in one video I watched the person said this cable can only be used on iPad Pros, mine is a 9.7 iPad 2018 not a Pro. This is what is confusing me - even the Apple Support Line didn't help me much, just gave me this link https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202037
