Can an iMac that used a fusion drive be able to start from an SSD

I want to replace my conventional fusion drive on my iMac 21.5 for an SSD. Can this be done?

It would be much less expensive and more simple to get an OWC SSD & Mercury Elite Pro enlcosure (www.macsales.com) and install Mac OS on it and your apps and then use that as your startup drive and use the internal fusion or HD only as storage.

To answer your question, possibly yes but it is major surgery, will invalidate any warranty or AppleCare remaining and may simply cause problems. If you use the above components you can be up and running within about 30 minutes and have excellent performance.
