Microsoft Excel - cannot delete user templates

Computer: Mac mini, MacOS 10.14.3

I have MS Office 2016 on my Mac. I can find my user-created templates in Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/My Templates. If I drag one or more of them to the Trash, they disappear from the list of templates, but if I open the My Templates folder, their outlines and names are still there, and if I click on one, the template reappears. How can I get rid of them altogether?

Hello Michael Graubart,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you have not been able to delete templates you have created in MS Word. The following article has some information on how to delete templates which you may find useful:

Create and use your own template in Office for Mac - Office Support

"Delete a template

In the Finder, open /Users/username/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Templates.

Drag the templates that you want to delete to the Trash."

Best Regards.
