Install WD discovery software

Hi, I just bought the WH my cloud Home 4TB to back up my data. It's pretty easy to install the software om a phone but now I'm unable to install WD discovery software on my Macbook. I'm able to download the install software package but it won't install eventually. The software is not from the apple store but online via WD.

Hope anybody could help.

Cheers,

Erwin

Historically the WD software has not worked well on Macs. It is not needed to use the drive for Time Machine backups. I've had fairly serious issues both on modern Macs and the older "pre-Intel" Macs that were due to WD's software, including stalls, overheating of the computer, and general slowness.

Several people posting here said they called WD support about problems with the software and the WD techs told them they did not need the software on a Mac.

However, if your drive model connects wirelessly, you may need to check the documentation to see if some software components are required. If you are connecting with a cable, then is is all plug-and-play.

Hello erwin177,

Thanks for the post in Apple Support Communities.

I understand you're unable to install an app downloaded from a website. Can you provide more detail about what happens when you try installing the app? If you get an error message, what does it say?

Which macOS version are you using? You can check by clicking Apple menu () > About This Mac.

This link is a great guide for installing apps on your Mac for reference: Install and uninstall apps from the Internet or disc on Mac. From your post, it sounds like one of the steps recommended in that link may be helpful if you're seeing an alert that the developer is unidentified. If that's the error you see, check out the details here: Open a Mac app from an unidentified developer.

I hope this helps get you started.

Cheers.
