Using facetime in Egypt, dows it charge other than the data/wifi usage

I have recently got a new iphone, and I have been charged for facetime usage- either on wifi or data in Egypt. I was told by the carrier (Vodafone Egypt) that facetime requires sending international Txts to the servers in UK, thats why it costs as if its international txt.

Is that true?

I see no supported carriers for Egypt listed here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204042

What this means is that certain iPhone features, like FaceTime, may not be supported fully. This includes sending the text messages to the iMessage/FaceTime server.

Supported carriers do not charge for those messages.

The only way to avoid the charges are to switch to a supported carrier, or sign out of iMessage and FaceTime and stop using them.
