Slow motion video from Iphone to FCPX

I'm confused about the importing procedure of slowmo videos shot with my iphonex to fcpx.

  • When I transfer the slowmo video at my iphonex using the airdrop to my Mac the file size is 109.3 MB
  • When I transfer the slowmo video at my iphonex using the FCPX to my Mac the files size is 72 MB

I wonder if there's a loss in quality when I import the iphonex video using FCPX and is there a sort of compression applied during the FCPX Import.

I would be glad if someone could clarify this issue so that I will choose the best way to import the videos that I shot using the IPhonex to my projects in FCPX.

Your video is most likely using HEVC codec. When using Airdrop it is being converted to H264.

When importing directly is transferred in the format it was recorded in.

There is a setting in your iPhone settings app, under Photos: “transfer to mac or pc”, which can be set to “most compatible” ir “Keep originals”.

Thanks a lot ! Ur right.

I checked the codec of the imported video in fcpx it's the HEVC codec and the file size is 72mb, and then I checked the codec of the same shot that I imported via the airdrop and it's the h.264 codec with 109,3 mb of file size.

So from now on I'll import iphone footage using FCPX without a worry, also I've set the setting of the Photos app to "Keep Originals" as I'm mostly importing the footage directly to fcpx.

Cheers

Thanks for ur reply ! I figured it out, but I think the audio processing of the iphonex at slowmo vids is better than the fcpx's audio processing. I mean the audio on the iphonex's slowmo videos is usable but in fcpx the slowmo audio is really trashy. So I would still have the slowed down videos by iphonex in fcpx timeline.

What do u think ? and isn't it possible to import the iphonex's version of the slowed down videos ?
