Why am I unable to get up to date software for my ipad mini. I keep being told that my software is up to date (ios 9.3.5) yet to use my security protection I am told I have to have ios 10 or later. Help !

A 1st gen iPad Mini cannot be upgraded/updated beyond iOS 9.3.5.
It’s internal hardware is too old and underpowered.
Newer versions of iOS are no longer compatible and would run very slowly on your over 5-year old iPad Mini.
What do you need security protection for?
iPads and iOS are completely sandboxed and have no need for any type of security protection.
