MacBook (Retina,12-inch, 2017) stopped charging

I bought this computer in December 2017, so only a year and a month old (and unfortunately 1 month pass warranty go figure). It stopped charging so I bought a new charge and cord and that was not the problem. I took it to the Apple Store Genius Bar and they said it was going to be $575 to fix. Am I being ripped off? Has anyone else had problems with this and paid this much? They actually didn’t say what they problem was only sent this:

Problem Description/Diagnosis
Issue: Customer states that device is not charging
Steps to Reproduce: Verified issue in store, device failed charging diagnostic.
Cosmetic Condition: Stickers on display. Light scotching o; bezel edges and bottom of computer.
Proposed Resolution: Repair device at Apple service center for $575 before tax.
Alternate Pickup: Patricia Wilcox
Mac OS Version: 10.14.x
Hard Drive Size: 251
Memory Size: 8192

Although the price seems high, it's not unusual ... and why Apple encourages you to purchase an AppleCare+ service plan to go with your notebook. Even with it, you can still expect to pay upwards of $299 for Apple terms "other damage."

Too late now, but you may want to consider getting one the next time around ... should you still plan on getting Apple products.
