My desktop files won't fully upload to icloud

I purchased a new iMac and used migration assistant to copy all files and settings from my Macbook Pro to my new iMac. I've been using my new iMac for a couple of weeks but found out that files were not uploading to the icloud. I'm logged in to my icloud but they just won't finish uploading. The files have an up arrow next to them but I cannot get any of them to show up in my icloud account so I can access them on other computers.

Any ideas on this? The up arrow appears next to a lot of files so I'm wondering if this might have something to do with using migration assistant to copy all the files from my Macbook Pro, files that were already in the cloud.

Thanks for any ideas on this!

Hey there, skbauer!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!  I like to use iCloud Drive to have access to my files wherever I go too, so I can understand your concern.  I’d like to help!

It sounds like your files aren’t uploading to iCloud Drive after some time.  Let’s start by going to the Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Options > Desktop & Documents.  Is that enabled?  Also, was this enabled on your old Mac?

Next, Get help with iCloud Drive has some steps listed under “What if my files don’t update to iCloud?” that might help get the process started.  It’s important to note, that if you have a large amount of files, it can take some time to upload depending on your internet connection.

If those steps don’t help to get the process going, Contact - Official Apple Support.

I hope that helps and take care!
