Finder Column View, resize handles blank

In Mojave 10.14.2, in my Finder windows while in Column view, the handles at the bottom of the column separators are missing. The functionality is there. Just the image of the handle icon is missing. More specifically, it is missing only for folders. When a file is selected, the column separator to the right of the preview column shows its handle icon at the bottom.

This is true even if I boot into Safe Mode. However, logging in as another user does not show the problem. Any suggestions?

Sorry that didn't work! Regarding Disk Utility´s error: snapshot refers to the regular Time Machine backups, which are stored on your MacBook. You can then still access TM backups when your external TM drive (if you have one) is not connected. But other than that I have no idea what Disk Utility is telling you...to be honest, that sort of cryptic stuff is beyond me! But something´s wrong. Personally, I would just install the Mojave 10.14.2 combo update:

The combo update for 10.14.3 is here:

A combo update (doesn't take too long and does not touch your data) can often sort out system problems, and many experts regard using a combo update as being better than updating via Software Update in System Preferences. I hope things work out! Regards, Ian.

Thanks for the try, but that is not it. "Show scroll bars" = "When scrolling" causes the entire gutter between the columns to disappear, and thus there isn't even space for the handles. But I already had that set to "Always", so my screenshot shows that the gutter and a scroll bar are present and visible. At the bottom of the scroll bar, where the handles should be, is blank space instead (see the red circles in the screenshot).

Running Disk Utility's First Aid generated this intriguing error…

> Checking snapshot 1 of 4.

> error: btn: invalid btn_btree.bt_key_count (expected 9571298, actual 9571355)

> Snapshot is invalid.

Could the handle possibly be a "button" that this error indicates has been lost somehow?
